numbered - this copy #500 out of 750.Very good hardcover
protected by archival mylar sleeve with no dust jacket. Original
mustard-yellow cloth with black & gold pictorial front board and
spine. Gilt top edge. Deckled fore edge and bottom edge.
Previous owner's signature. Four (including frontispiece)
laid-down color paintings on silk with tissue guards. Paintings
represent "four of the standing character types of the Chinese
stage, in their traditional make-up" done by students of the
Peking School of Fine Arts "for the purpose of giving a vivid
impression of the colorfulness of the Chinese stage." Seventeen
black and white illustrations. Scarce. $400.00
